Dear People of God,
On this Mercy Sunday, God invites all of humanity to know and experience the depth of His love and mercy. There is no sin or sinner who will ever be turned away from the compassion of God. Everyone who makes the decision to throw themselves upon the mercy of God can expect not only forgiveness for failings but also receive incredible grace and blessings.
In our Gospel we hear how Thomas was not present when Jesus first appeared to His disciples. The following week, Jesus again appeared and Thomas was present. Jesus said to him, Thomas, "put your finger here and see my hands, and bring your hand and put it into my side, and do not be unbelieving, but believe." Like Thomas, many people doubt the reality and goodness of God. Thomas did make a tremendous profession of faith when he responded to Jesus and said, "My Lord and my God!" Jesus responded and said, "Have you come to believe because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and have believed."
My friends, the wounds that Jesus bore for you and me are out of love, compassion and mercy. God did not send our Lord, His Son, to die in vain. God wants every human being to know the depth of His love and the depth of His mercy. It is God's gift to all of us. However, like all gifts, it must be received.
I urge you to believe in the mercy of God and not doubt His love for you. There is nothing so worth while in this world that can match the gift that God offers. Eternal life is much more forever than the few years we will spend on this earth. Decide today to make the most of what God is offering all humanity. Decide today to walk in the path of Christ – a path that truly leads somewhere. Decide today to throw yourself upon the mercy and love of our incredible God. No one who put their trust in Him will ever be disappointed.
Sincerely yours in Christ,
Father Tarantino
