The Most Holy Trinity
June 7, 2009

Dear Friends in Christ,

On this Sunday, the Church celebrates the "Most Holy Trinity." God reveals to us a deep understanding of the relationship that exists between God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. This threefold revelation portrays itself by the action of God who is Creator, Redeemer and Sanctifier. Throughout the writings of Sacred Scripture, we can see how God reveals this mystery of Love, which is the very essence of God.

From Deuteronomy, we are told, "God created man upon the earth..." "This is why you must now know, and fix in your heart, that the Lord is God in the heavens above and on earth below, and that there is no other. You must keep his statutes and commandments..."

From St. Paul's letter to the Romans, we are told, "Those who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God." "The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God and if children, then heirs, heirs of God..."

From the Gospel of Matthew, we are told by Jesus, "All power in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you."

Therefore, just as God shows us what love is by His reaching out to us, God asks us to bring this same love to others. For God shows us by example that love is creative and life giving. The mystery of the Trinity can never be fully understood. However, the mystery of love can be experienced and shared. My friends, the challenge for us is to accept the role that God is offering us to participate in His plan of salvation through Jesus Christ in the power of the Holy Spirit.

Will you pray with me for the grace to bring God's power of love to the world at large? You do not have to fully understand the Trinity in order to know and experience the way of love. For the way of love, above all others, is the only way that leads to a better life in this world. Finally, this better life, based on the love of God, leads to eternal life prepared for those who respond to God's invitation.

Sincerely yours in Christ,
