Thirty-Third Sunday Ordinary Time November 16, 2008 |
Dear People of God, The Psalmist proclaims, “Blessed are you who fear the Lord, who walk in His ways!” Blessed are all of God’s people who understand that our God is an awesome God who loves us so much that He would die for us. Blessed are God’s people who grasp that each of us have been given the gift of eternal life which should help put into perspective how we live daily life. St. Paul reminds his readers that, “the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night.” As compared to eternity, our time in this world is extremely short. He says, “Therefore, let us not sleep as the rest do, but let us stay alert and sober.” Thus, as “children of the light and of the day,” we need to utilize our talents as best we can for the sake of God’s plan of salvation. In the parable of the talents, Jesus relays that we all have the responsibility of using all of our gifts in the service of others. It is God’s plan that we use everything that we are and everything that we have to bring about the Kingdom of God here on earth. Those who grasp the incredible significance of doing the will of God here on earth will have an eternity beyond imagining. The result for those who squander what they have been given for their own selfish concerns will also face eternal consequences. I encourage you to allow God to shine forth through your own generosity of “time, talent and treasure.” No one can out-perform God’s goodness to us by giving us exactly what we need. Let us show God’s love for us by loving others – especially those in need. Sincerely yours in Christ, Rev. James T. Tarantino, Pastor |
